Advanced Non-Surgical Periodontal Care

dental-implantsAt Upper East Side Dental Arts, we believe that a beautiful smile begins with healthy teeth and gums. Gum disease (periodontal disease) is a dental concern that affects millions of Americans, and can lead to much more serious health risks when left untreated. Routine oral exams give Dr. Konstantine Trichas an opportunity to inspect your gums for signs of gum disease and, if detected, offer you prompt treatment before your condition worsens. Our comprehensive, non-surgical gum treatments can help prevent advanced dental problems – including tooth loss – and keep your smile healthy.

Gum disease often begins with bacterial plaque buildup along the gum line. Over time, this can damage the gums and bone that support the teeth, ultimately leading to tooth loss. The symptoms of gum disease can include:

  • Redness or swelling of the gums
  • Bleeding
  • Loose teeth
  • Shifts in the position of the teeth
  • Bad breath

Patients with gum disease are also at a higher risk of life-threatening health issues, such as stroke or heart disease. To help remove plaque buildup around the gum line and between the teeth, Dr. Trichas recommends oral cleanings every six months. If you think you may be experiencing the symptoms of gum disease, schedule a consultation as soon as possible to receive prompt treatment and prevent the disease from progressing.

Deep scaling and root planing can be used to remove plaque and tartar buildup and reduce the symptoms of gum disease. By cleaning the bacteria out of the deep pockets within the gums, Dr. Trichas can prevent your gum disease from getting worse. In addition, he uses an advanced laser treatment that can quickly seal the gums for improved comfort and an accelerated healing process.
