Dental implant procedures are some of the most revolutionary advances in restorative dentistry. Millions of Americans suffer from tooth loss due to gum disease, injury, decay, or other causes. While traditional dentures have been effective treatments for missing teeth, they can also have some serious drawbacks. Unlike dentures, dental implants do not move and slip along the gumline; they are custom-designed for the best possible fit and appearance; and they can last forever. Dental implants from Dr. Konstantine Trichas can ultimately provide you with permanent results that look and function like natural teeth.

Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants offer a number of benefits that can help you improve your day-to-day life and renew confidence in your appearance. Some advantages of dental implants over other missing teeth replacement options include:
- Cosmetic and functional outcomes that look and feel like natural teeth
- Permanent results
- No additional maintenance required aside from normal brushing and flossing
- They will not move or slip along the gums
- Enhanced ability to chew and speak
- Can be used to replace a single missing tooth or a full set of teeth
- Can be anchored to a dental bridge, denture, or set of dentures to add support
Dental implant candidates are usually those who are looking for alternatives to traditional dentures and those who have adequate jawbone density to accommodate the implant. Candidates must also not have a disease or condition which may slow the progress of healing after implant surgery. Patients who are currently being treated with radiation or chemotherapy for cancer are not candidates for this procedure. If it is determined that you are not a candidate for dental implants, Dr. Trichas will be happy to suggest advanced alternatives that can help you meet your needs.
The Dental Implants Procedure
The dental implants procedure begins with the placement of a durable titanium post in the area of the missing tooth. The post will be directly anchored to the jawbone, where it will fuse to the bone itself, mimicking a natural tooth root. This fusion (called osseointegration) will take place for about three to six months after the initial procedure. Dr. Trichas can place a temporary crown over the implant during this period. Once the implant has adequately fused to the bone, Dr. Trichas will attach a custom-designed permanent dental crown to the implant. The crown is created to provide a virtually seamless blend with your natural teeth. In fact, once the crown is placed, it should look and feel so natural that you may have trouble remembering which tooth is the dental implant!
