TechnologyOur experienced cosmetic dentist, Dr. Konstantine Trichas, and his dental team utilize some of the most advanced dental technology available, which allows us to provide safer, more accurate treatments. We are committed to providing the best patient care possible, and we believe staying up-to-date with technology is a great way to do so. Take a look at the variety of laser, imaging, and screening technology we use at Upper East Side Dental Arts, and please feel free to contact us if you’d like to learn more!

Intraoral Camera

Through the use of an intraoral camera, Dr. Trichas can more easily identify dental problems while communicating the state of your oral health to you in a clear and straightforward way. The small camera takes high quality pictures of your teeth and gums, which will then be magnified on our monitor for display. The detailed pictures offer an in-depth look inside your mouth, and if any problems are detected, Dr. Trichas is then able to recommend the appropriate treatment plan to help protect your teeth and gums from further damage.

Digital X-rays / 3D Imaging

With our digital x-ray and 3D imaging technology, pictures of your teeth and gums are transferred to a monitor for immediate review. The images are highly detailed, offering Dr. Trichas more precision in diagnosis. Since the x-rays are taken digitally, patients are exposed to up to 90% less radiation than with traditional x-ray technology, making it not only a more efficient system but also a safer option as well. Plus, the use of developing chemicals that are harmful to the environment is no longer necessary. Digital x-rays also save time by making it possible to instantaneously share the images with your insurance company.

Smile Imaging

If you have ever wondered what you would look like following a cosmetic dentistry procedure, you can now see the potential results before undergoing a treatment. Our smile imaging software allows us to modify a digital picture of your mouth, based on the treatment you are interested in. Invisalign®, porcelain veneers and gum reshaping can all be seen applied to your teeth before committing to any dental care. Dr. Trichas encourages patients to use the images to offer feedback on what you like and what you would want to change about the expected outcome. Through smile imaging, patients can undergo treatments with results they have helped design. While no technology is capable of predicting the future with 100% accuracy, smile imaging can give you a general idea of the potential results.

Waterlase technology can provide virtually painless dental procedures without the need for an anesthetic. Instead of using a drill or scalpel, the Waterlase system uses air and water pressure as well as laser energy to treat your teeth in a much shorter time. Waterlase can increase the accuracy of treatment and reduce the chances of damage to surrounding, healthy areas. Whether you are at our office for routine care, such as porcelain crowns or bridges, or are in need of more complex procedures, such as dental implants, the Waterlase technology can be an effective and comfortable solution for even the most intimidating procedures.

Diode Laser

The Diode laser produces a wavelength ideal for soft tissue, especially on your gums. Dr. Trichas utilizes the technology for both medical and cosmetic purposes. If you suffer from periodontal disease, the laser can kill bacteria and help prevent the condition from worsening. For cosmetic dentistry, the Diode laser proves to be a useful tool in the treatment of a “gummy smile”. Through gum reshaping, the advanced technology can remove excess gum tissue without the need for surgery. In addition to its versatility, the Diode laser allows for a shorter recovery and reduces bleeding and infection risk.

With the DIAGNOdent laser, our dental staff can more precisely identify changes in the makeup of your teeth. This allows us to treat cavities in their earliest stages, preventing further decay and helping us save as much of your tooth as possible. The process is also more comfortable for our patients, as you will experience virtually no pain from the laser. The DIAGNOdent laser is an overall improvement to the traditional method of cavity detection, making the uncomfortable poking and prodding with dental instruments a thing of the past.

VELscope® can be a very effective and more comprehensive way to screen for signs of oral cancer. This quick, painless procedure can be performed during a routine oral exam. The VELscope® technology can identify abnormal tissues in your mouth that may not always be visible to the naked eye. Using a special blue light, VELscope® can make even the smallest irregularities visible to our dentist. Remember, early detection and treatment of oral cancer has been shown to significantly increase the chances of survival. An oral cancer screening should be done at least once every year for patients who do not use tobacco products, and at least twice each year for patients who do use tobacco products.

BIOLASE Laser Dentistry

BIOLASE laser technology allows our dental professionals to perform a number of dental and periodontal procedures in a less invasive way. As a result, patients typically experience less pain and discomfort during treatment and a quicker recovery. BIOLASE is one of a variety of laser systems we use here at Upper East Side Dental Spa.

iTero™ Digital Impressions

For an improved and more comfortable dental restoration process, we utilize iTero™ digital impression technology. This innovative device eliminates the need for taking molds of patients’ teeth, which can be a messy and uncomfortable experience. As the device scans your teeth, we are provided with a map of your mouth for precise placement of dental restorations. Having the electronic copy of your teeth as opposed to the physical mold allows for better accuracy as well as a faster treatment, whether you’re getting porcelain veneers, crowns, implants, or another type of restoration. Plus, there are no putties involved!

PreNew PreView®

prenew_logoMany of our patients have attained beautiful restorations designed by the Jason Kim Oral Design lab. Dr. Konstantine Trichas has most of our dental restorations created at this prestigious lab – located right here in Manhattan – because of its consistent, high-quality, natural-looking results.

The lab provides peace of mind with their PreNew PreView® technology, creating a realistic example of what your new smile will look like after a procedure. If you’re nervous about the potential outcome after getting dental work done, Dr. Trichas can take an impression of your teeth, which will be sent to the lab where the expected results will be created. At your next visit, this “mock-up” of your new smile will be applied to your teeth so you can visualize what the results will look like. Based on what you see, you can decide whether to move forward with the procedure or consider alternative treatments.
